Missing Relations Incorporating Relational Constructs Into Models of Culture

چکیده
A5 an increasing number of organizations reach across national boundaries, organizational research increasingly addresses the question ofhow national culture influences individual behavior (Erez & Earley, 1993; Hofstede, 1991). Researchers face a choice among numerous definitions of culture and methods for studying it that have been developed in different academic disciplines (Keesing, 1974). As the diversity of chapters in this volume attests, researchers in different subfields oforganizational behavior have chosen different methodological paths and have arrived at different insights. The path chosen by most micro-level organizational behavior researchers is to study “subjective culture,” that is, to conceptualize culture as existing in an individual’s mental representations rather than in external structures and artifacts (Triandis, 1967, 1972, 1995). Cultural differences in values, beliefs, and attitudes are assessed through inventories such as those traditionally used to measure personality differences. Moreover, just as generalizations about personality were made in terms

Normalization of Relations with Nulls in Candidate Keys
This paper discusses normalization of relations when the candidate keys of a relation have missing information represented by nulls. The paper shows that when the missing information is of the type " not applicable " or " does not exist, " problems and confusion can arise in normalizing relations. Candidate keys with missing information commonly are found in relations that represent information...
متن کاملNormalization of Relations with Nulls in Candidate Keys: Traditional and Domain Key Normal Forms
This chapter discusses normalization of relations when the candidate keys of a relation have missing information represented by nulls. The chapter shows that problems and confusion can arise in normalizing relations with nulls in candidate keys. Candidate keys with missing information commonly are found in relations that represent information on two entities with a one-to-one relationship betwe...
متن کاملCollectively Embedding Multi-Relational Data for Predicting User Preferences
Matrix factorization has found incredible success and widespread application as a collaborative filtering based approach to recommendations. Unfortunately, incorporating additional sources of evidence, especially ones that are incomplete and noisy, is quite difficult to achieve in such models, however, is often crucial for obtaining further gains in accuracy. For example, additional information...
متن کاملThe Reengineering of Relational Databases Based on Key and Data Correlations
This paper addresses the problem of recovering object-oriented schemata from relational databases. Solutions to this problem are particularly useful for designing wrappers for federated database systems. Our goal here is to describe a reverse engineering methodology for the DOK federated database system (Tari et al. 1996), enabling the wrappers to express relational schemata as object-oriented ...
متن کاملMapping Conceptual Models to Database Schemas
The mapping of a conceptual-model instance to a database schema is fundamentally the same for all conceptual models. A conceptual-model instance describes the relationships and constraints among the various data items. Given the relationships and constraints, the mappings group data items together into flat relational schemas for relational databases and into nested relational schemas for objec...
